NetSuite certification: the types, what it costs, and how to prepare

Associate exams are free to anyone with a NetSuite Pass, including the free Explorer Pass. Specialist and Professional fees are shown inside Oracle MyLearn after you log in; Oracle no longer prints them publicly, and the last published fees under the old program were $250 per exam and $150 per retake. Exams are online, proctored, multiple choice, 60 to 120 minutes, and a certification is valid for two years.

The NetSuite certification program today
Oracle rebuilt the program in 2025 and calls it new: role-based tracks, free Associate-level exams, and everything managed through Oracle MyLearn instead of the old test vendor. The familiar names survived inside it. SuiteFoundation is now a Specialist exam, and Administrator, ERP Consultant and the developer exams are Professional-level. New finance and BI exams sit beside them, and Oracle says more are on the way in every track.
The program is open to customers, partners and individual professionals. Two of our own team are NetSuite-certified and nine are NetSuite-trained, so what follows is Oracle's documentation read closely, plus what we tell people who ask us which exam to sit.

Oracle's Resource Center describes SuiteFoundation as the starting point for anyone planning Administrator, ERP Consultant or SuiteCloud Developer, and describes Administrator Professional as designed for people with a SuiteFoundation certification and at least a year of hands-on experience. Under the old program SuiteFoundation was a formal prerequisite; today Oracle says any prerequisites are noted in each exam guide.
Which NetSuite pages did you open this week for real work? If the answer is a handful, start with the Associate exam and a demo account. If it is most of the setup menu, you are ready for SuiteFoundation.
What the exams cost
The honest answer has three parts. Associate exams are free to every NetSuite Pass holder, and the Explorer Pass is free to anyone, so the first certification costs nothing. For Specialist and Professional exams Oracle's FAQ says the fees "are listed on the certification site", which means inside MyLearn once you are logged in; it publishes no figure on an open page. The last fees Oracle did print, in its October 2024 study guides for SuiteFoundation, Administrator and ERP Consultant, were $250 per exam and $150 per retake. Treat those as a guide to the order of magnitude, not as a quote, and check MyLearn before you budget. There are no free retakes: every attempt uses one purchased exam credit, and a missed appointment counts as an attempt.
What the exam is like
- Online and proctored on Oracle's platform, in Chrome or Edge only. The screen is locked: no pen and paper, no notes, no SuiteAnswers. A digital calculator and whiteboard are built into the exam screen.
- Multiple choice, with some scenario questions or simulations, and 60 to 120 minutes depending on the level. Question counts and passing scores are stated in each exam guide.
- Scored as a percentage of correct answers with no negative marking, so answer everything. Your score is not printed on the certificate.
- Written for the current NetSuite release, so a candidate on the lagging release can meet features they have not seen yet.
- Reschedule at least 24 hours ahead or lose the attempt.
Which exam to take, and in what order
- Start with an Associate exam that matches your job. Financial Associate for accountants, BI and Reporting Associate for anyone who builds searches, AI Foundations Associate if you want to show you understand the new features. Free, and a fair test of whether you are ready for more.
- SuiteFoundation Specialist next if you administer, implement or consult. It covers records, business processes, sales orders and inventory, the platform knowledge everything else assumes.
- Administrator Professional after a year in the seat. Oracle's own description says a year of hands-on experience; in our team the people who passed had run a live account through several releases first.
- ERP Consultant Professional after real implementations. The old guide asked for the equivalent of five to ten medium or two to three enterprise implementations. That is still the right bar; the exam expects you to advise on workflows, scripting and integrations, not just to know them.
- The developer track for people who write SuiteScript and integrations: Application Developer and Web Services Developer, which together with SuiteFoundation make the SuiteCloud Developer Professional credential.
Every learning path in MyLearn has a study guide, a practice exam and courses, and Oracle recommends the training. In our experience the people who pass first time are the ones who did the tasks in a demo or sandbox account: set up a subsidiary, built a saved search from scratch, closed a period, broke a workflow and fixed it. Keeping it: recertification
A NetSuite certification is valid for two years. Oracle says renewal requirements are sent by email and "may include a Delta exam or refresher course". During the switch to the new program Oracle used a one-time open-book New Release Quiz, and its last deadline was August 2026, so from now on expect the Delta exam route. When you pass, you receive a digital badge and certificate to share; Oracle stopped issuing logos in 2019, and a third party can only verify your certification through a link you generate yourself in CertView.
What a certification does and does not tell a client
It tells you the person knows the product: the records, the setup pages, the release cycle. It does not tell you whether they can close a month, decide whether a cost is an asset, or notice that a bank import dropped seven rows. When we say two of our people are NetSuite-certified and nine are NetSuite-trained, that is the product knowledge; the accounting judgment comes from experience, in the case of our founder Narek Abgaryan more than 15 years of it, and that is what a client is paying for. If you are choosing a firm, ask about both.
